JETSTAR says its planned 30 per cent increase to capacity in 2010-11 will see a significant jump in the number of flights out of Melbourne and Sydney.
Jetstar, which is wholly owned by Qantas Airways Ltd, says an additional 45 flights a week out of the cities will be added from December.
Adelaide will be the main beneficiary, with Jetstar to operate 21 flights a week on the Melbourne-Adelaide and Sydney-Adelaide routes.
Jetstar group chief executive Bruce Buchanan says the airline is now at record capacity for Adelaide.
Mr Buchanan said the extra services would support tourism, as well as give South Australians the opportunity to connect to Jetstar's growing networks through Asia and New Zealand via either Melbourne or Sydney.
'This new capacity is in direct response to demand in key Jetstar ports, and demonstrates Jetstar's ongoing commitment to offering our customers even more low fares, greater frequencies and convenient schedules,' Mr Buchanan said.
Among the other changes, Sydney-Brisbane will move to four flights a day and Melbourne-Brisbane will increase to three a day.
Extra flights will also be provided from Sydney to Townsville and Ballina, and from Melbourne to Newcastle.
Adelaide's boost comes after Tiger Airways said it would discontinue flights from the city to Brisbane and the Gold Coast from November.
Also, Jetstar's announcement comes after Virgin Blue chief executive John Borghetti said his airline would increase capacity across its domestic network by six to 10 per cent in 2010-11.

'With his declaration that he would match Qantas' A330 offerings in the Australian domestic market next year, Mr Borghetti has also firmed the prospect of another battle for supremacy in the Australian domestic market next year,' it said in a research note dated August 26.
